xkcd Post (on Life with) Cancer

xkcd, an amazing web comic on “romance, sarcasm, math and language,” just posted a moving piece about cancer survival rates.

We felt the scaling of each frame had an interesting way of capturing the paradigm shift that occurs upon receiving a cancer diagnoses. For those of unfamiliar with the math and art of xkcd, take your time scrolling down to the bottom of the page and be sure to mouse-over the image to see an explanation of what each highway lane represents.

Health 2.0 features many stories about the broad influence of data on healthcare. But we always try to remember how these indicators, rates, points, percentages, meta data, charts, statistics etc. impact the patients behind the numbers and on the other end of the EMR.
